A little choral newborn & milestone

Only taken me 10 years, LOL, but after 5 drafts, last night I finished the final copy of my 1st full choir composition: Hold me to this Place – a mantra for the Earth. This is especially significant for me as I started the notation process over 3 years ago w/t any idea how to notate. Just tried 1 bar….then 2…then 4…16…and it just multiplied!

This 5 page arrangement has been my devotion btwn work hours for a year, to finish this for once and for all, and stick to my commitment to do this by hand (which was difficult beyond measure, no pun intended…HAHAHA! 🙂 ) And sure it’s not perfect but it is what it is, for whatever it’s worth!

And I stand by my decision (a year ago) to go forward with it in spite of Tenor being the lead (which apparently it ‘never’ is in a traditional choir, says my choir director/ mentor), unless going for a textural effect in which case it doesn’t matter if the lead gets lost in the whole.

This apparently means no traditional choir could ever sing it and that’s ok! If I focus on ‘making it right’, I’ll never have finished. And it’s a mantra…the Whole IS the Point! And if no one ever sings it cuz of the Tenor, they’ve MISSED the whole point! HAHAHAHAHA! I kill myself.

Anyway, I never thought I would see this day!
